Beauty on a Budget

Have you ever wept after receiving the bill for your latest beauty purchases? Sometimes it’s just so hard to walk away from the M.A.C. store empty-handed, especially after browsing through all of the pretty lip-glosses and eye-popping shadows! What’s a fabulous female on the go to do?  Well, if you’re looking for a way to become a beauty babe on a budget, but you can’t put the $200 face cream down, I have some tips that will help you rein in the spending while allowing you feel beautiful!

That silky, sweet smelling body lotion you just spent your cell phone money on could easily be replaced with something that’s just as good for you, and great for your budget. Check out favorite drugstore brands like Nivea Body Skin Nourishing Moisturizer, Vaseline Daily Skin Shield SPF 15, Jergen’s Shea Butter Cream, and Dove Pro Age Body Cream Oil. All of these products contain the same ingredients found in most of the more expensive creams and lotions. They are all reasonably priced- within the 4 to 7 dollar price range. But more importantly, these products work!

High-end facial cleansers and moisturizers have luxurious packaging, for which you get the privilege of paying! Many of the more expensive products boast special ingredients that you supposedly cannot get in more economically priced products. There may be subtle variations of ingredients, but for the most part, Oil of Olay Foaming Facial Wash works just as well as a higher priced wash. For a retail cost of about $5.00, it’s worth a try.  Other great cleansers that help you get more bang for your buck include Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser, and Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. These products are great choices for sensitive or oily skin and have accompanying moisturizers that work well.

It’s probably more difficult to shop for makeup in a drugstore if you don’t have a good idea of what colors compliment your skin. However, you fabulous females on the go won’t have too much trouble maneuvering the makeup aisles at CVS, Walgreens, and other stores. Once you see the Vaseline Daily Skin Shield SPF 15 and notice how the colors pop and how well they moisturize your lips, your designer wallet will thank you! Covergirl Wetslicks Lip Glosses have very similar colors to quite a few of the higher priced cosmetic brands, and at $5.99 per gloss, they are definitely worth checking out. Maybelline, Revlon, L’Oreal, and Covergirl have all created foundations and powders that compliment all skin tones. Most of the products are priced within the $5 to $12 range, which certainly help beauty budget babes to not only feel great about saving their hard earned cash, but to also look beautiful! If backsliding is a problem, just look at your bank statements at the end of the month. Saving more money on some things, allows you to splurge on other things later, like a certain designer’s red-soled pumps, that “must have” handbag, or may a trip overseas. Beauty products don’t have to cost a lot in order for them to work. With a little patience and time, you can spend fewer bucks and still be a fabulous female on the go!
