Beauty and the Beast

“Beauty” (me) met the “Beast” (gym) at 5:55am when I hit that elliptical machine and I swear I would not have made it through the workout OR to work without two things: Kanye West’s “Monster” track from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy OR the Burt’s Bees Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo I used to wash away the proof of my workout! Seriously, I felt like a “Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” after exercising to Kanye’s sweat-inducing, synth-heavy, hard-core track that included raunchy and braggadocios lyrics from Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, and Nicki Minaj hat kept my energy level high and caused sweat to soak my clothes. After all that exercising, I headed home and into the shower. My locs needed a good scrub so I reached for some newly purchased Burt’s Bee’s Shampoo ($7.99 at most mass market/grocery/drugstores). I’d not used that particular product although I had used a Rosemary Mint Shampoo Bar from Burt’s Bees.  If you’re not familiar with the company, Burt’s Bees creates and promotes natural products that are good for you AND the environment. All of their products are paraben, sulfate, petrochemical, and phthalate-free, which is great for folks who want to avoid harsh chemicals. The shampoo lathers well, and doesn’t leave a buildup. It didn’t have an extremely “fruity” smell that I would normally associate with any shampoo that lists “pomegranate” as the main ingredient. Now I have to warn you: this shampoo is not a moisturizing formula, and I had to follow-up with conditioner after rinsing away the shampoo. If you’re looking for a shampoo that provides moisture, this one may not work for you. Overall, this shampoo did the job. My locs were gleaming and really felt clean. So here you have it folks.  Beauty beat the Beast’s behind thanks to Kanye (friend in my head) and Burt’s Bees!

The Makeup Show!

If you’ve been following me on Facebook ( ) you will see my links to The Makeup Show! This year I will be attending the June show in Chicago, where I get to meet and listen to my favorite Makeup Artist and inspiration, Sam Fine. Major key players in the industry will speak . Academy Award Winning Maurice Stein is featured as a Keynote Speaker,  and Joanna Schlip who judged on Oxygen Network’s “Blush: Search for the Next Great Makeup Artist” will also speak on red-carpet makeup.   Yes darlings, I get the opportunity to attend some workshops and seminars and learn about current trends and techniques. As a product junkie (who is not looking for rehab) I can’t wait to test out and purchase more makeup and tools!  Shall I purchase a new suitcase just to haul all my goodies back to Texas?
