Cute Collection!

As a long time subscriber to Allure Magazine, the ultimate beauty guide for cosmetics, I was pleased to see that Allure has created a really good collection of shadows, glosses, and blushers/bronzers that help take the guess work out of how to pair colors.  The Allure Beauty Editor Palette Collection by Sephora is a set of  5 smartly packaged palettes that allow you to mix and match shades.  I”m a woman that must have options for just about everything, so I am really excited about this collection, because I can chose opulent jewel tones for one look, then switch to pretty, soft neutral colors for another beauty style.  For only $34, you can own this collection valued at $150 by ordering from Sephora at www.sephora.com.  I’ve already ordered my kit and cannot WAIT to try out some new looks!

Brow Beating 101

Okay, be honest. Have you ever looked at someone’s face and got really distracted by their brows? Uni-brows, super thick and bushy ones, and super short brows can really alter a person’s face, and not for the better. Sometimes people get used to how they look and don’t realize that they need a little help in the brow department. Clean up stray hairs or get a full brow shaping by heading to a professional  at a day spa or salon. I know some of you go to the nail salon to get your brows waxed, and I”m not knocking that, but you need to make sure they are following sanitation laws by practicing good hygiene. Good hygiene from ANY place, whether it be a day spa, a salon, or your cousin’s kitchen, will prevent you from picking up any infections!  Do your research first and find out who is the best artist in your area. You may have to ask people you know who have great brows.  Meet with your brow shape artist in person and discuss which shapes would work better for your face. If your brows are long, the artist will use scissors to trim them down.  Once your brows have been shaped properly, you can either tweeze or wax them yourselves at home. It’s much easier to maintain the shape of the brows after a professional has shaped them first.

Some people have a naturally great shape to their brows but the hairs are sparse. Is that you? If so, you should invest in a good eyebrow pencil and apply in short, even strokes (don’t DRAW or COLOR unless you want to look clownish). My favorite brow pencil is M.A.C.’s Self-Sharpening pencil in Spiked, a really great color for brunettes or anyone who wants a brown colored eyebrow.
The pencil comes in other colors too, and look great on blondes and redheads as well as brunettes. Head to your nearest M.A.C. Store and try it out. Ideally, if you go the pencil route, you don’t want to make your brows black, it’s just too harsh of a color in my opinion, and adds extra years. Who wants to LOOK old?

It has been said many times that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Your eyebrows frame your eyes, and even if you are the very best at applying your makeup, your face will really be “missing” something if the brows aren’t groomed properly. There have been times when I refused to do makeup for people because they didn’t want their brows shaped. I had to explain to them that I couldn’t do MY job properly (which is to make them look beautiful) unless their brows were shaped. Making money is nice, but I stand on my convictions too, and I always want my name to be synonymous with excellence.  Okay, I’m off the soapbox! Remember, if you always look like someone just jumped out and screamed “Boo!” to you, or people can’t tell where one of your brows starts or ends, you need to get those brows done!

More Make Up For Ever

I wrote about Make Up For Ever Full Cover (concealer) a few weeks ago. Well, after spending a few days out in this hot Texas heat, I figured there MUST be something a gal could do to fight runny makeup. I decided to dip into my beauty booty and conduct an emergency beauty experiment in my lab (the bathroom).  After applying face primer and MUFE’s Full Cover to my entire face, (I use 2 different colors to avoid an uneven skin tone and to highlight certain areas), I followed up with the delightfully sheer but WATERPROOF Make Up For Ever Face and Body Liquid Makeup. Not only does it glide on easily, but it does a great job of staying in place. The level of coverage is not high, so if you are looking for a full coverage face and body makeup, you may want to try other options (like using the Full Cover concealer first). You have to let the makeup dry for a few minutes after application, especially if you plan to use this makeup on other parts of your body (i.e. legs, arms, chest area).  My skin look dewy and youthful, and my makeup did not budge in the 103 degree heat!

The Face and Body makeup comes in a variety of shades and is best applied with a sponge versus a brush. Go to www.makeupforever.com to view shades from Soft Beige all the way to Ebony, and it’s worth mentioning that Make Up For Ever understands that we come in all shades PLUS all different undertones. Some of us have pink undertones while others have yellow or olive undertones and matching foundation to the undertone is just as important as getting the right shade of foundation! You’ve all seen the photos of women who look PINK or ORANGE in a photo due to them wearing the wrong foundation, right? I think Make Up For Ever has done a good job of creating colors that can work for all skin tones. Pricing is a bit high ($38) for the Face and Body Liquid Makeup, but is absolutely worth the money. Although Make Up For Ever doesn’t allow you to purchase products on their website, you can certain take your cute self over to your local Sephora store or purchase the products from www.sephora.com ! Let me know how it works for you by leaving a comment!

From My Lips To Yours!

Do something good for your lips!

I’ve been so busy with traveling and other things that I forgot to tell you all about my latest cosmetic coup! Korres, the Greek natural skin care company, has developed a deliciously supple, vitamin infused lip gloss that goes on smoothly and gives my lips a pretty pout!  Korres is an eco-conscious company that prides itself on utilizing the local farmers network to provide products that contain the best natural ingredients possible.  With that being said, cherry oil is listed as a main ingredient, which really hydrates the lips. What I really liked about the gloss was that I didn’t have to reapply it several times throughout the day!  I own Light Purple, a really soft and shimmery mauve/pink color that I was able to wear alone or over a lip stick. I even tried it out with a few different lip pencils and that allowed me to achieve a different look each time.  Get yourself over to the nearest Sephora store and check out Korres!
