Hot Pink For Summer 2013

Hot Pink/Purple Lips

Hot Pink/Purple Lips

“They” say you can’t wear certain colors but why are YOU listening to “them” anyway? Color exists for a reason and I embrace them all for different reasons.
Notice that I’m on trend with hot pinkish purple lips for the summer. Finding the right shade of pink that pops may take a bit of time, especially since every shade isn’t right for everyone. I’m a makeup artist, so I can “make” the wrong color work for me by mixing lipsticks with glosses or adding a lip liner. If you’re fair-skinned, with a rosy complexion, look for a bright pink that has a touch of coral, which adds dimension to the skin. Medium and olive-skinned beauty babes can rock hot pinks blended with purple undertones that really complement their skin. If you’re dark like me, you can play around with wine colored pinks, as well as pinks that have more of a violet hue that wake up your skin! I struggle with finding the right colors just like everyone else, so created my own pink by lining my lips very lightly with MAC’s Vino Lip Pencil (one of my favorites), then mixing Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hoochie with Strumpet. I topped off the look with MAC Lip Glass in Pink Poodle (and oldie but goodie). I actually got quite a few compliments on my pretty pink lips. Everyone may not have the patience to mix all those shades together to get their signature pink look, but there are more than enough brands out there to select from and through trial and error, you can find the right hot pink for summer 2013! Happy Shopping!

I’m Obsessed with OCC.

A couple of months ago, I attended The Makeup Show and immediately headed toward the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics counter to play around with their highly pigmented and very colorful cosmetics. I fell in love with the Lip Tar, made of  Hemp and Peppermint Oil, as well as Vitamin E, which made my lips feel supple and moist immediately! OCC’s Lip Tar and all of their other products are 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free, which means they aren’t filled with chemicals that are ultimately bad for your skin and the environment (go green)!  Lip Tar is meant to be worn either alone or mixed with other colors and because of the high levels of pigment, you MUST apply with a lip brush and only use a tiny dab at time to avoid looking like a clown (unless that IS the look you desire). A little truly goes a long way, which is great for your pockets too! At $13 dollars a tube, Lip Tar will last a long time if used correctly!

If you remember from a previous blog, I actually took photos of myself wearing “Hoochie” by OCC and since then, several people have contacted me about purchasing that color.  I just placed an order for a few more items including more Lip Tar in “Strumpet”  (shown at the top of this page and I can’t stop laughing at the color’s name) and professional Nail Lacquer in “Tarred”, a seriously, super-rich, black, satin polish that I can’t wait to arrive (mani/pedi time)!
